On April, 20, the President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, signed the Law “On State Support of Cinematography in Ukraine”, approved by the Verkhovna Rada with the proposals of the President.
The President stated that this law is a key element in the process of decommunisation in culture and cinematography. Petro Poroshenko noted that these laws provide an effective long-awaited support mechanism for cinematography, production of programmes and films.
The President expressed his gratitude to everyone involved in the development and drafting of law.
The Law No.3081-д was drafted with the participation of Jurimex lawyers and was submitted for approval to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in the autumn of 2016. However, the President of Ukraine returned the draft law for revision and amendments.
One of the authors of the law is Yuriy Krainiak, Managing Partner of Jurimex, a member of the working group that assisted the Administration of the President in the development of amendments that have been coordinated with the President.
Draft law No. 3081-д appeared due to combining draft law No. 3081 by a deputy Mykola Kniazhytskyi and draft law No. 3081-1 by #KinoKrainy («#КіноКраїни»), which is a joint initiative of major national movie manufacturers and TV StarLightMedia, InterMediaGroup, Media Group Ukraine, and Film.uaGroup, StarMedia, ProTV, Kvartal 95 Studio and Odessa Cinema Studio. Media lawyers Anatolii Maksymchuk (StarLightMedia Group) and Yuriy Krainiak (Jurimex) have been working on the draft law.
