The Verkhovna Rada has adopted the Law No. 3081-д "On State Support of Cinematography in Ukraine", which was drafted by lawyers of law firm Jurimex together with the major Ukrainian filmmakers and the television of Ukraine.
This law sets out the procedure and forms used to provide public financial support to cinematography subjects as well as determines the participation of state in financing film production; defines cultural and production criteria for film testing; introduces the system of national film evaluation etc.
According to the law, the Council of State Support of Cinematography must also be established.
Draft law No. 3081-дdeveloped by Jurimex was submitted for approval to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in autumn of 2016. However, the President of Ukraine returned the draft law for revision and amendment.
The working group, which included Yuriy Krainiak, Managing Partner of Jurimex, together with the Administration of the President, developed the amendments that were agreed with the President. The Verkhovna Rada revised the draft and adopted by the vote of majority of MPs (270votes in total).
It is worth recalling that the draft law No. 3081-д was drafted due to combining the draft law No. 3081 developed by the MP Mykola Kniazhytskyiand the draft law No. 3081-1 by "#KinoKraiiny", as a joint initiative of the major domestic filmmakers and TV StarLightMedia, Inter Media Group, "Media Group Ukraine" Film.ua Group, Star Media, Pro TV, studio "Kvartal 95" and Odessa film studio. In particular, media lawyers such as Anatolii Maksymchuk (StarLightMedia group) and Yuriy Krainiak (Jurimex) contributed to the draft law.
