Jurimex and the Council of Europe presented the results of a study of the compliance of the court fees system in Ukraine with the EU standards.

Since 2019, Jurimex has been advising the Council of Europe on justice and advocacy.

During the event, Nina Kucheruk, Head of Litigation and Arbitration, informed the audience about current European standards on court fees and analyzed the compliance of Ukrainian legislation with the European approach. Nina Kucheruk developed a report on the evaluation of the Council of Europe standards and advice on court fees in the context of access to justice under the Convention. Besides, Kucheruk presented a comprehensive analysis of the current Ukrainian legislation, its shortcomings, and conflicts. "Ukrainian legislation and its implementation require discussion. In particular, Ukraine should consider an option of reduction of the court fees rates, especially for appeals and cassation claims, since current rates often impede justice and give rise to violations. We have advanced relevant suggestions for the Verkhovna Rada, which surely will be well-received by the MPs, and significant reforms will be introduced in the Ukrainian law shortly," Nina Kucheruk stated at the end of her lecture.

The event was attended by the Council of Europe delegates, judges of the Supreme Court and other courts, people's deputies, chiefs of the Ministry of Justice, top attorneys and other legal experts that lead law-making in Ukraine.
