On 15 April 2014 the roundtable on «Ways of reforming regional state television and radio companies into community broadcasters» was held in Kyiv. The participants of the roundtable included recognized experts in media, members of the National Council of television and radio broadcasting, heads of the National television company of Ukraine, regional state television and radio companies as well as representatives of public organizations and media experts.

Yuriy Krainiak took active part in the discussion. He stressed a special attention to the regulatory peculiarities of reforming the local state television. According to Mr. Krainiak the draft law on public television will confuse the regional state television and radio companies. As per the current legislation such television and radio companies may not be a basis for public television formation because the local state broadcasters may be converted only into local community broadcasters. At the same time these reforms are not regulated in legislative level that entails a range of specific problems without solving of which the reform of state broadcasting may turn into chaos. Also it should be noted that the reform specifies the transfer of all licenses from regional television and radio companies to public television companies. It will definitely cause problems in its implementation.

The roundtable was held within the project of Public organization Telekritika «Implementation of public broadcasting» as well as the programme of the European Council «Implementation of the European standards in the Ukrainian media».
