MANAGING PARTNER OF JURIMEX LAW FIRM IS ELECTED A COORDINATOR OF THE WORKING GROUP COMMITTEE ON THE ISSUES OF TRANSITION TO DIGITAL TELEVISION IN THE PARLIAMENTARY COMMITTEE

On July 11, 2013, the first meeting of the working group of the Committee on freedom of speech and information on the preparation of a bill on ensuring the successful transition to digital broadcasting standards was held. During the meeting, the group members made their proposals for the party's work, as well as the tasks that will be focused on further activities. In particular, at the meeting it was previously agreed that the main objective of the working group should be the preparation of a bill designed to resolve the issues of the transition period to digital television, as well as the development of recommendations that should be taken into account by the competent authorities for the effective transition to digital television.

At the first meeting of the working group, it was decided to appoint the managing partner of Jurimex law firm Yuriy Krainyak a coordinator of the work. The role of coordinator should include collecting and processing proposals from group members, drafting relevant documents and coordinating their discussions at meetings.

During the discussion, Yuriy Krainyak told about his vision of the working group activity: "Today, the Parliamentary Committee on Freedom of Speech is developing a major bill on audiovisual services, which is planned to replace the current Law “On Television and Radio Broadcasting. In this regard, there is no point in duplicating the work that has already been done. Therefore, it would be useful for the digital TV working group to focus mainly on organizing the digital switchover itself: to solve the issue of switching off the analog signal, informing the public about the transition, addressing technical issues and many others. And there is no doubt that the high level of this working group is able to offer effective solutions to the most acute issues of this process." The next meeting of the working group is planned on July 20.

The working group on Freedom of Speech and Information on the preparation of a bill on ensuring the successful transition to digital broadcasting standards at the Parliamentary Committee was created under the results of the committee hearings "Implementation of Digital Broadcasting Standards in Ukraine", which took place on May 15, 2013 in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. The working group includes elected officials, members of the National Council on Broadcasting, representatives of the State Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting, public organizations, TV channel directors, other specialized companies, as well as media lawyers.
